... While she was living with her family, her elder brother planned to exchange her with another girl for the purpose of cultural exchange marriage without her consent. She refused the cultural exchange marriage when she was aware of it. But her brother forced her to marry a man with cultural exchange marriage arrangement. Following this, she reported the case to woreda women and children affairs office and the Woreda Women and Children affairs office in cooperation with relevant bodies investigated her GBV case and she was brought to MujejeguwaLoka Women Development Association’s shelter where she got full psychological services. Currently, she is attending her second year college education and leading happy life with other GBV survivors.

The group was called Jara women group which is formed by woreda line department in October 2012 before they became self help group. The objective of the Jara women group formation was to make community conversation on HTP and gender issue at their own kebele level, finally at the end of this program MLWDA came to this women group with self help group strengthen program and reestablished the group in 2013, the starting from this time the group is called Mesengila self help group and the group member were 41 but now they are 23. MLWDA is supporting this self help women group under civil society support project which is funded by British council through provision of life skill training, BMS and other capacity building trainings, provision of five donkeys to implement donkey assisted farming system. Immediately they have begun their business on small scale irrigation farming at Bamza kebele around Abay River.

Keltum is living in Bamza Kebele of Yageter village and her main livelihood is farming activity and herding two goats. Before she joined the Abay mesino self help group which is working on small scale irrigation around Abay river, she cover all daily expense of family conception and school fee for children by collecting wood for sell and annually she harvest 4 quintal of sorghum from this product 75% is stored for family conception and 25% of it is supplied for sell.

Mujejeguwa Loka Women Development Association (MLWDA) is an Ethiopian Residents Charity. It started its community-based development initiatives earlier on in 1996. Although the association obtained its legal registration from the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Ministry of Justice in 2002\03, and has been in existence for over 8 years starting as a relatively small organisation, based in the Metekel Zone of the Benishangul-Gumuz National Regional State. Mujejeguwa Loka in the Gumuz language means ‘down light’; where Mujejeguwa stands for ‘down’ and the Loka for ‘light’. Today, MLWDA is one of the indigenous NGO in the region as well in Ethiopia.
